URBAN PROFESSIONALS OF KANSAS CITY

For the next generation of leaders and change agents.

WHO WE ARE

As an auxiliary of the Urban League of Greater Kansas City (ULKC), the Urban Professionals of Kansas City (UPKC) is a group of active philanthropic, social, and civic-minded individuals. We support the mission, initiatives, and agenda of ULKC and the National Urban League in the movement toward achieving equality and promoting socioeconomic opportunity and justice.

UPKC is committed to making Greater Kansas City a better place to live, work, and play. We provide opportunities for professional development, networking, civic and philanthropic projects, and social events throughout the city.
Our members are emerging leaders in the fields of business, law, education, engineering, government, healthcare/medical, commerce, information technology, communications, etc.

MISSION

UPKC is dedicated to enhancing the community and enriching the quality of life for urbanites in the Greater Kansas City metropolitan area. Through the support and development of professional, educational, political, social, and economic resources, UPKC cultivates the surrounding community and prepares its members to assume leadership roles within their professional organizations, the Urban League of Greater Kansas City, the civil rights movement, and the urban community.

VISION

To inspire, empower, and impact the lives of our members and Kansas City residents, affect change, and ultimately propel Greater Kansas City toward its future as a progressive, creative, vibrant hub.

AGENDA

The UPKC Impact Agenda is adapted from the Urban League of Greater Kansas City’s Empowerment Agenda, and geared toward our target demographic. We promote social and economic development through:

  • Economic Self Sufficiency
  • Educational and Youth Development
  • Civil Rights and Racial Justice
  • Civic Engagement

ORGANIZATIONAL

UPKC is governed by its members and holds quarterly general body meetings. Day-to-day operations are carried out by an elected executive board comprised of executive officers, chairs and co-chairs of impact committees, and chairs and co-chairs of standing committees.

Each impact committee has a specific mission and set of goals that address the needs of our community while preparing the next generation of leaders. Each standing committee’s mission and set of goals address the needs of UPKC and its members. Committees are responsible for brainstorming, approving, planning, and executing events and initiatives.
Members are encouraged to actively participate on committees and join the board of directors to assist in shaping the organization’s future.
